AIMS OF THE COURSE
To provide participants with an appreciation and understanding of the complexities of serious accident investigation and to enable them to develop confidence and competence in investigation techniques and managing serious accidents.
OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course the participants will be able to:

Manual Handling – Train the Trainer
Introduction
This training programme, which is of 3 days duration, offers an opportunity for a Company to train selected personnel to train Manual Handling and Lifting Techniques back in their workplace. The trainees will be assessed as to their knowledge and method of delivery and when they have successfully completed the programme, will be provided with a training package for their own use back in the workplace.
The training can be provided in – house or the trainees can attend the programme at an open course at a selected venue.
Background
- Over 1 million people a year in Britain, suffer from work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) - causing an estimated 12.3 million working days lost, at a cost to society of £5.7 billion.
- A Company has legal obligations with regard to manual handling and general health and safety at work.
- Staff employed in a Company have a specific need to be aware of lifting and carrying techniques.
- Manual handling assessment, and implementation of the resulting remedial action and control measures, enables staff to avoid injury and to take care of their health.
- Improves the working environment and staff morale.
- Helps to provide information on recurrent workplace problems such as job design.
- Extends the health and safety knowledge base within a Company to identify and put right anything the trainee is not doing safely.
Intended Audience
This course is for in Company personnel employed in a group potentially exposed to significant risk from manual handling tasks and who will be able to conduct manual handling awareness training to such staff.
Aim of Training
- To ensure that trainees will have a thorough knowledge and understanding of manual handling principles and their application in the workplace environment.
- To enable the trainees to successfully communicate techniques of safe manual handling in the work place.
Objectives of Training
Trainees will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of basic spinal anatomy and biomechanical principles with reference to manual handling.
- Recognise the individuals responsibility to help prevent injury and identify ways in which that might be achieved.
- Outline the principles of safe handling of inanimate loads.
- Outline the key duties of the employer and the duties of the employee as required by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
- Assess manual handling activities, identify potential risk factors and recognise ergonomic lifting techniques used.
- Identify control measures to reduce risk of injury.
- Demonstrate the safe handling of a load as directed.
- Demonstrate their competence in a practical lifting exercise.
- Demonstrate presentation and communication skills by delivering and element of the training programme.
- Train staff in practical lifting techniques.
